Starting and Finishing at the Dr. Martin Luther King Plaza race participants from diverse population to include all demographics, race, gender, age, culture, and creed Celebrate physical activity in a fun way! As participants hit the streets they will have the opportunity to enjoy the views of Downtown Stockton and Weber Point.
“Revenue received from this race will fund community efforts, such as educating and empowering citizens to make better health-related decisions and to address matters of viable health-care services, treatment, and other relevant matters that impact our community,” said Robert “Bobby” Bivens, president of the Stockton Branch NAACP.
Registered walkers and runners received a commemorative technical T-shirt, along with a custom finisher medal, pre-race refreshments and a post-race box-lunch. Placement medals was presented to the top three overall male/female categories in each event, ages 18 and older and 17 and under. There will also be a trophy for the oldest runner."The NAACP Stockton Branch has a Health committee that is dedicated to the health and the well-being of the San Joaquin County community, so the race is a perfect fit," said Carolyn Gaynor, who is the race coordinator. The committee provides valuable information to increase awareness about services, resources and issues surrounding health, and the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. 5k/10K Run/Walk will help do that. Vendors and information booths focusing on health was available at the expo after the race.
